What Can I Expect from Play Therapy?

“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than you can in a year of conversation”

Play and behaviour are considered key indicators of how children are feeling and experiencing the world.  Before they have the vocabulary and understanding to fully express themselves, they are able to play.  Therefore, play therapy is an accessible and comfortable environment for children to work through problems and promote emotional wellbeing.  The therapy takes place in 45 minute weekly sessions and is child led, meaning the client chooses their own activities and pathway.  This can be incredibly empowering and is a non-judgemental space for children to be themselves in any way they choose.  Having ownership of their own therapeutic experiences means that children can benefit from increased confidence and communication skills as well as healing from traumatic events and letting go of difficult feelings.
